About Counselling

Counselling is a type of talking therapy that provides a safe and supportive environment for you to navigate life’s challenges and gain insights into your emotions and behaviours.

It is tailored to your needs whether you prefer short-term or long-term support. We’ll have regular check-ins to ensure our work together remains effective. When it’s time to conclude our sessions, I encourage you to provide some notice, this allows us to collaboratively explore the ending, ensuring a smooth transition without abrupt closure.

my style of counselling

As an integrative counsellor, I draw upon various therapeutic approaches to create a tailored and holistic experience for you. I believe that you are the expert in your own life, and my role is to accompany you on your journey of self-discovery and understanding without imposing solutions. I will support you in exploring your feelings in the here and now, as well as encourage you to explore the influence of past experiences on your present relationships, behaviours, and patterns. Together, we’ll uncover insights that empower you to make positive changes.

As a member of the BACP I adhere to their ethical framework, this commitment reflects my dedication to maintaining the highest professional standards in the field of counselling. I engage in regular professional development and supervision, to ensure that my knowledge and skills remain current, providing you with the best possible therapeutic experience. Furthermore, as part of my commitment to both your well-being and my professional accountability I have Professional Liability insurance, offering an additional layer of security and protection.

RELATIONSHIP PSYCHOTHERAPY

Whether you are having severe difficulties in your relationship, or just looking for a ‘health check’, relationship therapy can give you the tools to explore and work through whatever blocks you may be experiencing. More dynamic than 1:1 therapy, my role will be more like a facilitator: challenging, guiding, and giving space to each party in a way that you may not be able to access in your day to day lives. As I am currently in training as a relationship psychotherapist on an NCIP (National Council of Integrative Psychotherapists) accredited course, I will be offering a discounted rate to clients.

Working with difference and diversity

I deeply appreciate the profound impact that different cultural backgrounds, whether oppressive or empowering, can have on our lives and personal narratives. In therapy I will respect your unique lived experience, valuing your distinct journey. My commitment to inclusivity goes beyond trust; it extends to active support. I am dedicated to continuously educating myself on diverse perspectives without placing the burden on you to be the teacher. My goal is to meet you with empathy, understanding, and an unwavering commitment to your well-being. I work affirmatively with ENM and polyamory, sexual diversity, and folk exploring how sex, gender, and identity inform their life and relationships.

If you are seeking a therapist of colour, you may want to look through the therapist directory provided by the Black, African and Asian Therapy Network (BAATN) at baatn.org.uk.

A valuable resource for LGBTQIA+ and relationally diverse persons is Pink Therapy’s directory at pinktherapy.com.

Additionally you may find radicaltherapistnetwork.com particularly useful, as it offers a wealth of online resources alongside their therapist directory.
